  หลักฐานเนิ่นนานมีมาตั้งแต่ปี 1817 ที่ศัลยแพทย์ชาวอังกฤษชื่อเจมส์ พาร์กินสัน ซึ่งต่อมาก็เป็นที่มาของชื่อโรค ได้รายงานว่า ผู้ป่วยหลายรายที่มาด้วยอาการสั่นที่ในขณะนั้นตั้งชื่อว่า “shaking palsy” มีท้องผูกนำมาก่อน และผู้ป่วยหนึ่งในหกราย ที่ได้ทำการบรรเทาเยียวยาอาการทางลำไส้ ปรากฏว่า ความแปรปรวนของการเคลื่อนไหวและการสั่นกลับดีขึ้น ทั้งๆที่ในสมัยนั้นไม่ได้มียาอย่างในปัจจุบันที่ใช้กันอยู่ด้วยซ้ำ
